The Convent
Within St. Mary Convent lies the opportunity for reverie and renewal and retreat. In the middle of the violent storms of the world and under the pressure of ceaseless temptations, the author of the Psalms paused to think. The sparrow has found a home to settle, and the swallow a nest to protect its young but where would he find a place to dwell, a shelter to inhabit?
How lovely are Thy dwellings,
O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, yea, even faints for the
courts of the Lord.
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the
living God.
Yea, the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself
where she may lay her young,
at Thy altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
Blessed are they who dwell in Thy
house.
For better is a day in Thy courts than
a thousand elsewhere...
- Psalm 84
To be rightly aligned within, with God, and with others, it behooves us to seek humility. Ephram El-Souriany said, "Inside the meek and humble man, the spirit of wisdom rests." Great humility in life renders ever greater wisdom in service, also fostering gentleness of spirit and compassion toward others. St. Mary Convent offers the atmosphere to engender wisdom, humility, and right relationships.
